Graffiti Hotline Update

The Graffiti Hotline is no longer working. I called 3 times - as a citizen and not as a board member - to report 4 instances of tagging in Mango Groves. Yesterday I was fed up, so I rode my bike to all of the spots with a camera and took pictures. I then emailed the pictures to Captain Silva. By 10am this morning I had a message from PBSO about the graffiti. Below is the email:
"Mr. Smith,
The four locations mentioned will be cleaned up today, 4/18/11. Should you find any additional graffiti, please call the Sheriff's Office and a deputy will respond to photograph the graffiti and forward the report to our Graffiti Unit. Please do not hesitate to call me should you have any questions and thank you for contacting us regarding this issue.
Lieutenant Beth Krivda
Watch Commander
District 14 - City of Lake Worth
561-202-9620 (Office)
561-472-4596 (Cell)"
I strongly encourage you to contact the non-emergency number for any instances of graffiti that you find in Lake Worth. Or you can call Lt. Krivda whose number is above."
Let's keep Lake Worth beautiful!!!

Update on Vacant Lot at 431 N K Street
Today a number of Mango Groves residents, along with other residents of Lake Worth, and the mayor, began converting the vacant lot at 431 N K Street into a park. We spread mulch for a pathway around the large tree near the center of the lot and placed the benches that the city donated. We also cleared a lot of branches and vegetation from the lot, along with concrete, glass and trash. Someone donated some flowers and they were planted as well. We still have some work to do to make the lot into a real park. Plans are in effect to plant some shade trees along the sidewalks and to get more mulch for more pathways. The effort today was a positive stride towards improving our neighborhood and City. We would like to thank all those who helped, especially Suzanne Mulvehill who came through big for us on Friday to ensure that 3 benches, two trash cans, and a recycle bin were dropped off. Also, after dropping off these items the City took away a discarded sofa from the lot and some other waste. I will be posting some pictures on our blog shortly.

Updates February 21, 2011
Several important emails have been sent out to our membership base. The first concerns the date of converting the vacant lot at 431 N K Street into a green space. A survey was sent out about this. Check back for the exact date and time of the event. It will be on a Sunday in March. I will be meeting with Martin Cybulski (City of Lake Worth Horticulturist) this Wednesday morning at 9am to discuss the lot.
The second email mentioned a need for a Mango Groves Logo. This is essential for our publications, this blog, and potentially our Neighborhood Banners. If interested please contact us!! Deadline March 10, 2011 (ideally).
The meeting minutes from the 2/17/2011 meeting are now on the blog as well.
Don't forget to check out Anna Maria's blog - lakewortheveryminute.wordpress.com

2/17/11 Meeting
Last night MGNA met for our February meeting. The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office made a presentation on their crime reduction techniques in our neighborhood and in the city of Lake Worth. Commissioner Scott Maxwell took time out from his dinner engagement to drop in and give us some more information on the controversial initiative to re-evaluate PBSO and possibly recreate a Lake Worth Police Department. Commissioner Maxwell was the only commissioner to vote against the 45K study and is very supportive of PBSO. He urges ALL citizens to write their representatives to voice their concerns over this issue. Homeland Security also made a presentation and encouraged us as citizens to report any suspicious terrorist like behavior. If you would like one of their flyers feel free to contact me. Finally, March 1st to 31st is "Lights Out" for sea turtles at our beach. Please do not remove the spikes that mark their nests on the beach. See www.marinelife.org for more info.

Welcome to Mango Groves Neighborhood Association's New Blog!
Mango Groves 2011 Officers and Board and Representative Jeff Clemens.
This blog is meant to inform citizens of Mango Groves about their neighborhood meetings, events, and other pertinent information involving the City of Lake Worth. Positive comments are appreciated.
"Good Neighbors Make Great Neighborhoods."
The first Mango Groves meeting for the year was very lively, and informative. Joe Kroll the Public Services Director for the City presented on neighborhood cleanups, and going forward the process should be a lot easier for us. The PBSO also presented on several of their recent successful prostitution and drug bust operations and community policing. New officers were sworn in by Representative Jeff Clemens who talked about some of his ideas for the State and the City and made it very clear that he intends to be accessible to his constituents. For more please see Minutes & Agendas.
